Previous Competitions
The first phase of the CDN-GM Interactive Design Competition ran from April to July 4th 2011 and invited design students from the USA and Canada to design a vehicle interior based on briefs set by GM.
GM's four brands (GMC, Cadillac, Chevrolet and Buick) each set an individual brief and
students could choose to submit an entry for as many of the briefs as
they wished.
* THE PHASE 1 FINALISTS HAVE NOW BEEN ANNOUNCED *
There are thirteen in total, click here to see the entries.
The
finalists are still competiting against each other for one of the four GM
internships that are being offered as prizes to the four eventual winners!
They have until November to continue working on their entries and really
prove to the judges that they deserve to be a winner. Each winner will also win an iPad 2!
The
site is currently open for the finalists to continue working on their
entries. We also encourage all members to give their input and make
comments on their entries through the website.
All
thirteen finalists have been invited to the NAIAS in Detroit in January
2012, where the winner from each brand will be announced.
Car Design News-Opel/Vauxhall Interactive Design Competition: A Lounge in Motion
Student designers in Europe were asked to create a car interior that was also a lounge, in other words, a lounge in motion. The car interior was to fit the Opel/Vauxhall brand and accentuate both the emotional and rational aspect of the brand and its design language - sculptural artistry meets German precision.
The second phase of the competition went on to ask students to develop exteriors for the three finalist interiors entries.
The Opel/Vauxhall competition ran in 2010 and concluded with the display of the work of the finalists and the announcement of the winners at the Geneva Motor Show in February 2011. Click here for more information
Car Design Awards China
This annual competition, launched in 2010, is for students in China, and has briefs set and judged by design directors from both domestic and global OEMs. It encourages a unique blending of modern automotive design and China's heritage. The prize-giving for the first event was at a stylish Awards ceremony held during the Beijing Auto Show. The 2011 competition will culminate in an Awards event during the Shanghai Auto Show.
Interior Motives Design Awards
Part of the Car Design News portfolio is the print magazine Interior Motives, which organises a global student design competition. The 2011 contest is the 9th in the annual series.
The competition is prestigious and well-established, and culminates in an Awards ceremony held during either the Paris or Frankfurt Motor Shows (2011 is Frankfurt's year). Senior design directors and the finalists in ten Awards categories are able to mingle and review the students' work on display prior to announcement of the winners.
Voted by the readers of Car Design News, we make this award in two categories - Best Concept Car and Best Production Car. The winners (like BMW for the 2008 year, pictured) have deservedly valued the accolade from their peers. The 2010 year saw the awards, which are presented during Car Design Night at the Geneva Motor Show, go to the Range Rover Evoque for production, and the Pininfarina Duettottanta for concept.
