Terms and Conditions
In the following terms and conditions, 'Competition' means the Car Design News-GM Interactive Design Competition and 'Organisers' means either or both of Ultima Media Ltd (publisher of Car Design News) and General Motors.
Eligibility
The competition is open to students enrolled as a full-time student in college or university in the USA or Canada. Candidate must have at least one more semester to complete after the competition ends.
Candidate must maintain strong academic standing (3.0 overall GPA) and if candidate is selected as a winner, they must successfully complete GM's pre-employment and drug screening requirements prior to final acceptance as an itnern.
Canadian citizens are eligible to participate and GM will utilize a TN Visa, should a Canadian student be offered one of the winners and offered an internship.
Non-US/Canadian residents are eligible to participate as long as they possess a F1 Visa or have an OPT.
Along with transportation and product design, entries from students studying fashion, textile and other design courses, as well as those studying design engineering and architecture, are encouraged.
Individuals not enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree course at a college or university are not eligible to enter.
All entries are individual - group entries are not allowed.
To verify that entrants are bona fide students, the name, email address, school, course name and contact information is required. The Organisers and/or their authorised agents retain the right to verify the identity and eligibility as well as all information pertaining to any individuals who have entered the Competition.
Entry form accuracy, originality and publicity
The Organisers assume that all entries are original and are the works and property of the entrant, with all rights granted therein. The Organisers are not liable for any copyright infringement on the part of the entrant.
It is a condition of entry to the Competition that participants grant rights to the use of the images and content of their submissions for public display and publication, including but not limited to the Car Design News website, Ultima Media publications, the GM displays at international motor shows, and third party media organisations at the discretion of the Organisers.
Entrants also agree to the use of their names and likenesses for purposes of advertising, display and promotion without compensation, unless prohibited by law.
Copyright and right to buy
Copyright in their work will remain, subject to the entry conditions, with the entrants, provided that GM has the exclusive right of first refusal to buy for market conditions and prices and receive irrevocably the exclusive and sub-licensable right of use, exploitation and enjoyment, unrestricted in terms of time and territory, regarding the Copyrights in the entrants' works, in GM's sole discretion in whole or in part.
This right of first refusal will expire in the case that it is not claimed by GM on or before January 31, 2013.
Notification
The Organisers will notify the finalists individually some time after the Competition closes, and it is a condition of entry that up-to-date contact information for entrants is maintained on the Competition website.
There will be no individual notification to entrants. General announcements concerning the progress, requirements and results of the Competition will be made on this site.
Judges
The Organisers have the right at their absolute discretion to appoint and replace judges, and the decisions of the judges in the competition are final.
No liability
No responsibility or liability will be accepted by the Organisers, their affiliates, subsidiaries, agents or representatives, or anyone connected to this project for:
- lost, late, misdirected, illegible, or damaged entries or any other such events that may occur; or
- technical, hardware or software failure of any kind, for lost network connection or for distorted or scrambled computer transmissions or if, for any reason, computer programs are not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, and unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of the Organisers that corrupt or affect administration, security, fairness, integrity or discretion of the Competition; or
- any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorised access to or alteration of entries; or
- any technical malfunction of any telephone network, online transmission, servers or computer equipment, nor any software failure or failure or disruption of transmission of emails on account of technical problems, human error or congestion on the internet or any website; or
- any combination of the above, including any injury or damage to the entrant's or any other's computer related to or resulting from participation.
The Organisers reserve the right to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Competition and accept no responsibility for any damages caused.
