Timeline for competition


The 2014 Car Design News–General Motors Interactive Design Competition has now closed. The  work of the 27 finalists will now be judged by representatives from CDN and GM. Each finalist is competing to win one of six, three-month paid internships that offer the chance to work alongside GM's design teams at the world-famous Tech Center in Warren, MI.

The winners of the contest will be announced at a special presentation during the second press day of the 2015 Detroit Auto Show.

The contest comprised three elements: after completing the first ‘Ideation’ and second ‘Development’ phases, the top 27 students were shortlisted as finalists and asked to complete their designs in the ‘Visualization’ phase. The finalists were guided during this part of the process with input from members of GM’s design team.

Each entrant selected one of five possible briefs to design a solution for, including 'Sculpting', which is new for the 2014 competition:
